Lecturer Social & Professional Project Management
Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching & Learning:
    • Deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops on project management principles, methodologies, and practices (e.g., Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, PRINCE2).
    • Focus on both technical and social aspects of project management, including communication, leadership, ethics, stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and team dynamics.
    • Develop and update course content, including lecture slides, readings, assignments, and exams.
    • Use case studies, real-world examples, and project simulations to enhance students’ learning experiences.
    • Assess student performance through assignments, group projects, exams, and presentations.
    • Provide individualized support to students through office hours, academic advising, and mentoring.
  2. Curriculum Development:
    • Contribute to the design, review, and update of the curriculum for project management programs.
    • Develop new courses and modules that integrate social, cultural, and professional issues in project management.
    • Ensure that course content aligns with current industry standards, best practices, and professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
    • Develop and integrate practical components, including group projects, case studies, and internships, into the curriculum.
  3. Research & Professional Development:
    • Engage in research in the field of project management, focusing on both the technical and social aspects, such as project leadership, sustainability, ethics, stakeholder engagement, and social responsibility.
    • Publish research in academic journals and present at conferences.
    • Stay updated with emerging trends, tools, and methodologies in project management and apply them to teaching.
    • Engage in continuous professional development through workshops, certifications, and industry engagement.
  4. Student Engagement and Mentorship:
    • Provide academic support and career advice to students, guiding them in their studies and professional aspirations.
    • Supervise student projects, especially those that involve real-world problem-solving in project management scenarios.
    • Encourage and mentor students in extracurricular activities such as student project management clubs, competitions, and internships.
  5. Administrative Duties:
    • Participate in departmental and faculty meetings, academic committees, and other institutional activities.
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and performance.
    • Assist with administrative tasks such as grading, preparing reports, and contributing to accreditation processes.
  6. Industry Engagement:
    • Build relationships with industry professionals, organizations, and professional associations (e.g., PMI, IPMA) to enhance students’ learning experiences and provide opportunities for internships, networking, and guest lectures.
    • Invite guest speakers from industry to deliver talks or lead workshops on current issues in project management.
    • Ensure that the program reflects the needs and expectations of the professional project management community.
  7. Other Duties:
    • Participate in university-wide initiatives, such as public engagement activities, workshops, and collaborative research projects.
    • Support the department in student recruitment, open days, and promotional activities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • A Master’s degree (or higher) in Project Management, Business Administration, Management, Social Sciences, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred for senior roles or research-focused positions).
    • Professional certifications in Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, CAPM, IPMA) are strongly preferred.
  • Professional Certifications:
    • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar qualification.
    • Additional certifications or qualifications in leadership, team management, or social responsibility in projects (e.g., Agile, Scrum) are an advantage.

Experience:

  • Teaching Experience:
    • Previous experience in teaching project management at the university level, with a focus on both professional practices and social aspects of project management.
    • Experience in course design, curriculum development, and the use of project-based learning approaches.
  • Industry Experience:
    • Practical experience in managing projects, with an understanding of the technical, organizational, and social challenges involved.
    • Experience with different project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, PRINCE2, Waterfall).
    • Experience in managing projects in diverse, cross-functional teams and understanding the social and professional dynamics of these teams.
  • Research Experience:
    • Experience or interest in conducting research in project management, particularly in the areas of leadership, ethics, social responsibility, sustainability, or team dynamics.
    • A track record of publications or contributions to conferences in the field of project management is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Subject Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of project management principles, practices, and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, PRINCE2).
    • Understanding of the social, cultural, and ethical aspects of project management, including stakeholder engagement, communication, conflict resolution, and team dynamics.
    • Familiarity with project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Asana, Trello).
  • Teaching & Pedagogy:
    • Ability to deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops in a clear, engaging, and accessible manner.
    • Strong communication skills to explain complex project management concepts and engage students in active learning.
    • Experience with online teaching and learning platforms (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas) is an advantage.
    • Ability to develop and manage projects or assignments that simulate real-world project management scenarios.
